Shell Closures in Exotic Nuclei
نویسنده
چکیده
Inspired by the recent experiments [1]-[3] indicating unusual doubly magic nucleus O which lies just at the neutron drip-line and encouraged by the success of our relativistic mean-field (RMF) plus state dependent BCS approach for the description of the ground state properties of the drip-line nuclei [23]-[27], we have further employed this approach, across the entire periodic table, to explore the unusual shell closures in exotic nuclei. In our RMF+BCS approach the single particle continuum corresponding to the RMF is replaced by a set of discrete positive energy states for the calculations of pairing energy. Detailed analysis of the single particle spectrum, pairing energies and densities of the nuclei predict the unusual proton shell closures at Z = 6, 14, 16, 34, and unusual neutron shell closures at N = 6, 14, 16, 34, 40, 70, 112. Keywords—Relativistic Mean Field theory, Magic Nucleus, Si isotopes, Shell Closure.

Particle Unstable Light Nuclei
Exotic nuclei produced in fragmentation reactions can be used to study nuclei beyond the drip lines. The level structure of these nuclei yields information about disappearing, shifting and emerging shells along the driplines. Light nuclei beyond the neutron dripline (for example He, Li, and Be) and the proton dripline (for example N and F) are used to establish the vanishing of the N = 8 and Z ...

In this paper, we first give a brief review of the theoretical framework for microscopic shell-model calculations starting from the free nucleon-nucleon potential. In this context, we discuss the use of the low-momentum nucleon-nucleon interaction V low−k in the derivation of the shell-model effective interaction and emphasize its practical value as an alternative to the Brueckner G-matrix meth...
متن کاملNuclear magic numbers: new features far from stability
The main purpose of the present manuscript is to review the structural evolution along the isotonic and isotopic chains around the ”traditional” magic numbers 8, 20, 28, 50, 82 and 126. The exotic regions of the chart of nuclides have been explored during the three last decades. Then the postulate of permanent magic numbers was definitely abandoned and the reason for these structural mutations ...
متن کاملRecent results of decay spectroscopy at RIBF
The nucleus is an isolated quantum system which consists of a finite number of fermions. A nucleus has a defined surface due to its finite volume, giving rise to a variety of nuclear shapes and dynamics depending on the interactions between the constituent protons and neutrons. Such shape-transitional behavior of atomic nuclei has been one of the major subjects explored in both experimental and...
متن کاملSuperheavy nuclei in relativistic effective Lagrangian model
Isotopic and isotonic chains of superheavy nuclei are analyzed to search for spherical double shell closures beyond Z = 82 and N = 126 within the new effective field theory model of Furnstahl, Serot, and Tang for the relativistic nuclear many-body problem. We take into account several indicators to identify the occurrence of possible shell closures, such as two-nucleon separation energies, two-...
